Kai set the bag of food and Lemongrass Luau beer onto the granite countertop. It was past noon, and he figured Nate would be hungry again soon, so he'd bought snacks and dinner.
"Hey."
Kai turned at the sound of Nate's voice. "Speak of the devil."
Nate entered the kitchen, towel drying his freshly washed hair. "Where's Jacob?"
Kai shrugged as he moved to stock the refrigerator. "I don't know."
"I thought he was with you. I saw you two leave together."
"I left him at the candy shop some time ago."
"How long ago?"
Kai paused to think about it. "Hour ago, I guess. I forgot to go get him."
Nate gaped at him. "So, you left him there? Dude, what is your problem? Why don't you like Jacob? I mean, he's a cool guy."
Kai rolled his eyes. "Spare me the bullshit." He folded his arms across his chest as he gave his best friend the weight of his glare. "My problem isn't with him. It's with you."
"With me?"
"That's right. If you're going to fuck him, then fuck him and be done with it. But don't try to force me to be besties with the next notch on your belt."
